2.University of Denver Food Week
October 21-26, 2012
As for why we are celebrating Food Week on campus, I think that DU is fortunate to be located in a community where there is increasingly more focus on food sustainability and food justice issues, particularly around urban agriculture, and we want to celebrate and connect with these community-wide efforts. For Food Week, we will highlight how DU is engaging in the urban agriculture movement with tours of our permaculture garden and new hydroponics system. We also want to introduce our students, faculty, and staff to some of the challenges of sourcing sustainable food in Denver, such as when students are not on campus during the short growing season.
The University of Denver is hosting events throughout the week, tentatively including:
-Sunday: A tour of the Pearl St Farmers Market and Sprouts Market (with one of their nutritionists)
-Monday: Cooking demo with DU Cooking Club
-Tuesday: DU Permaculture Garden Tour
-Wednesday: Sustainability Dinner
-Thursday: Food Justice Panel
-Friday: Next Steps Panel with RFC and COFED
